Thoko Modise, is an executive, with a deep understanding of Communications, Marketing and Media. She commenced her formal working career in television news, as an economic news journalist in the 90’s. Thereafter her career progressed into various fields which included, Retail and Market Research. In television & production, Thoko showcased her leadership skills in the repositioning and rebranding of a television channel, inspiring a vision that spoke to many and growing its viewership significantly. This resulted in a revenue generating brand for the public broadcaster’s most prominent commercial channel.
Other fields she worked on included brand strategy development, media buying & management, Government Communications & Stakeholder Relations. This further extended her understanding and appreciation of brands. She has always been driven by her love for media and production, as a medium of communication because it has liberated so many in the continent and globally. This is her passion. Thoko holds a degree in Communications and a post graduate in Business and Life Coaching.
She currently heads up Communications at Brand South Africa, the official government agency responsible for managing the reputation and image of South Africa, through marketing & communications. Domestically this is about promoting pride and patriotism for the nation brand, while internationally it’s to promote and position South Africa’s global competitiveness.
Her biggest source of inspiration comes from her two children, Amogela and Thapelo who are pursuing careers in different fields of digital marketing and economic news. They constantly drive her fascination about the latest trends on how to be in touch and remain relevant.
